Bigme soon to unveil HiBreak Dual, "World's First Dual-Screen Color E Ink + LCD Smartphone"

Just fresh off the release of the HiBreak Plus Color, Bigme is showing no signs of slowing down. The company recently teased its upcoming device: a dual-screen smartphone featuring a standard LCD screen on one side and a color E-Ink display on the other.

With the Bigme HiBreak Dual, switching screens depending on your activity will be a breeze if you don't mind flipping your phone. The color E-Ink side would be much better for reading, web browsing, and outdoor use, reducing eye strain. Meanwhile, the usual LCD screen allows users to switch back for normal smartphone activities like gaming or video streaming, where higher refresh rates are essential.

While brands like YotaPhone and Hisense have already released dual-screen phones in the market before, their secondary displays were limited to black and white e-ink. Bigme will be the first manufacturer to implement a color E-Ink screen into this form factor. Will you buy this product at a reasonable cost? Comment down below.

UPDATE: Bigme has unveiled the final design of its upcoming HiBreak Dual. Contrary to early expectations of two equally sized displays, the device features a circular LCD screen positioned beside the camera and flash, paired with a 6.13‑inch e‑ink panel. The e‑ink display offers 300 ppi in black and white and 150 ppi in color.

The secondary LCD screen, with a 360×360 resolution, is intended for quick tasks such as checking notifications, viewing calendar entries, or browsing photos in full color.

The Bigme HiBreak Dual is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor and will be offered in two configurations: 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. Bigme has not yet confirmed whether a microSD slot will be available for expandable storage.

Running on Android 14, the device includes a 4,500 mAh battery, dual SIM support, and a range of additional features:
  • 53 FPS performance
  • Stylus support
  • 18W fast charging
  • Fingerprint unlocking
  • AI Pets
  • Voice-to-text and OCR recognition
  • BigmeGPT 5.0 integration
  • 36-level adjustable front light
  • Dual cameras (front 5MP, rear 20MP)
Preorders are scheduled to begin on April 16, with "early early bird" pricing starting at USD 359.

How This Little Device Rekindled My Love for Reading

Just to be clear to everyone, I’m not that kind of a reader where I can just read a book in just one sitting, but I do love reading and books. When I was in elementary and high school, I would spend my spare time reading books in the library and every day I would borrow books that I can read at home. Books were a luxury for me at that time. With the money I have saved from my allowance, I could only buy books at secondhand bookstores, and I would spend a lot of time choosing which ones that I would buy.  The Struggle with Unread Books I just love the smell of new books, and I am guilty of buying a lot and end up either reading a few pages or not reading it at all. There is a Japanese word for people who are like that – tsundoku ( 積ん読 ). Seeing those stacks of unread books makes me feel disappointed and every year I promise myself that I will read it all. Then I saw this little device online. It did not solve my “ tsundoku ” problem, but it somehow got me back to reading. My Exper...
